The initiative gives young talents valuable work experience and has also become an important recruitment channel. Many of the students have maintained a lasting connection with the company.
“Already during the first days of the school year, we welcomed half of the second-year class from the IM program (Information Technology and Media Production) at Haugaland Upper Secondary School for a visit,” says Department Manager Vidar Nordnes.
“It’s rewarding to show them how we work, and we hope it will inspire more students and companies to explore the opportunities available in the region.”
From internship to career
Over the past five groups, Omega 365 in Haugesund has taken in more than 20 interns from Haugaland Upper Secondary School. Many have gone on to apprenticeships, and several have later secured permanent positions with the company. The program has proven to be an effective pathway from school to working life, while also supporting local recruitment.
One of those who followed this path is Izellah Johannesen. After completing the Information Technology and Media Production program at Haugaland Upper Secondary School, she is now an apprentice System Engineer at Omega 365. She says the transition to the professional world was much easier than she expected.
“Moving from school to a full-time job can seem intimidating, but for me it felt like a natural step. We learned a lot of relevant skills at school, and I’ve received incredible support and guidance from my colleagues at Omega 365. I’ve now spent a year working with our client Westcon, and it’s been an invaluable learning experience that I’ll carry with me throughout my career,” she says.
A strong partnership
Teachers Rune Karlsen and Odd Arne Hemmingstad from Haugaland Upper Secondary School point to the collaboration with Omega 365 as a great example of how schools and businesses can strengthen each other.
“Close cooperation with companies gives students hands-on training in current topics. When the business community contributes both practical and theoretical teaching in the classroom, learning becomes even more relevant,” they explain.
The goal is to give more young people a solid start to their careers while strengthening the ties between schools and local businesses.
