Foundations for Systematic Completion

Systematic Completion in Omega 365 is based on a simple but structured concept.

An organization (1) executes defined scope of work (2) to deliver a final product or asset (3), where progress and readiness can be planned, tracked and verified in a controlled manner.

These three elements form the foundation for how Completion is structured and managed in Omega 365.

Owner – Organisation Structure

Organizations are typically hierarchical in structure and consist of organizational units such as companies, departments, projects and contracts.

Omega 365 supports multiple organizational levels and allows Completion to be followed up both at project level and at higher organizational levels. This makes it possible to monitor and assess completion status across several projects, contracts or business units at the same time.

An example of a typical organizational structure is illustrated below.

Asset – Object Structure

Objects in a project are also typically hierarchical in structure. They often represent a combination of technical systems, equipment, locations and building installations.

Omega 365 has been developed to support these complex structures through a flexible hierarchy of linked objects. This allows projects to model systems and assets in a way that reflects how they are built, tested and handed over.

Object hierarchies are navigated primarily through Object Explorer and Scope Explorer, where objects can be viewed from different perspectives.

Scope – Scope of Completion

Planned scope represents the work that must be completed to deliver a project.

In Omega 365, Completion scope is established using activities. Activities define the work content and represent verification, testing and handover steps required to complete systems and assets. Activity types may vary depending on project type and delivery strategy.

Typical examples of Completion activities include:

  • inspections and controls,

  • system tests,

  • integrated tests,

  • handovers.

Activities are linked to objects in the object structure. Progress and status are measured using Scope Items, which represent the combination of an activity and an object.

Activity + Object = Scope Object

Omega 365 supports planning and managing activities through several applications, where Scope Explorer plays a central role in visualizing and following up Completion scope.

Unplanned Scope – Punch Items

Punch Items in Omega 365 are not created by manually ticking a checkbox during execution. Instead, Punch Items are a special type of workflow, defined and configured in advance through the process settings of the workflow.

A workflow becomes a Punch workflow when the attribute “Is Punch” is enabled as part of its process configuration. This attribute explicitly distinguishes Punch Items from regular workflows and defines their purpose in the Completion process.

Punch Items represent deviations, defects or outstanding issues identified during inspections, tests or verification activities. These items must be resolved before Completion can be finalized or handover can be accepted.

Because of their critical role in ensuring project quality, system integrity and readiness, the Omega 365 Completion module treats Punch workflows as a separate and traceable scope category. This allows Punch Items to be:

  • clearly separated from planned Completion activities,

  • followed up independently,

  • reported and filtered as outstanding corrective scope,

  • and governed through dedicated workflows and applications.

Punch Items are linked to objects in the object structure, ensuring that deviations and corrective actions are always traceable to the affected system, asset or location.
